1919 STANLEY STEAM CAR
You are looking at a beautifully
restored 1919 Stanley Steam Car. It is a 7-passenger auto car, 30 HP,
350-pound Working Pressure, operated on white gas or kerosene.
Bill Becker restored this car in the
late 1960’s/ early 1970’s. All body parts were removed from the
aluminum body; dents and damages were repaired. The steel fenders were
removed and repaired. Lots of block sanding and meticulous care was
given the body of this fantastic auto. The car was then painted with acrylic
enamel in “Rustoleum Brown” color with black fenders, making it a handsome
automobile indeed. Ray Chase, a real craftsman, did the striping on the
Stanley.
Original upholstery and top were left just so, which is
still in beautiful condition. Coast Mirror of Portland replaced the bezels
and lenses on the instruments. The late Clyde Schurman performed all
the mechanical restoration this car.
After all these years the restoration on
this FANTASTIC steam car still looks as shiny and fresh as it did when it
was picked up from Becker’s restoration shop 40+ years ago. What a handsome
automobile. It went across the auction block on Saturday, Aug 25, 2007,
selling for a WHOPPING $145,000.
It has found a new home in Portland, Oregon with a family who anticipates having fun learning to operate a steam car and enjoying it. We wish them the best of luck to them.
