Restorations
1913 IHC
International Harvester Company Highwheel Autowagon:
It was originally a 3 seat autowagon. The body was completely disassembled and rebuilt with new ash wood. Countless pieces were refitted and the body was coated with fiberglass resin, block sanded then primed and painted with acrylic enamel. Then reassembled. New fenders were fabricated by a master sheet metal worker. Wheels were rebuilt by an Amish wheelwright in Pennsylvania, using a neighbor to communicate details. New rubber was installed at that time. Wheels were also coated with resin and sanded, repainted. It was reupholstered in the original diamond tufting style with horsehair, done beautifully by an Austrian trained upholsterer. Once the owner took possession, the rear seat was removed and presented as a wagon, the front seat replaced because the original style did not allow room for adequate leg room beneath the steering wheel. This vehicle was recently auctioned in the Clyde Schurman Estate auction in Washington state.
